Bulgaria’s anti-government protests, a month on: photos
Tens of thousands of people – or, if you prefer the official estimate by the Interior Ministry, about 3500 – turned out in Sofia on the evening of July 12 in the latest of the series of protests to demand the resignation of the Bulgarian Socialist Party government as well as meaningful political reforms.
Additional aspects of events on Friday evening included an event in front of public broadcaster Bulgarian National Television in support of the station’s objective coverage, in the words of organisers, in response to attempts by the socialist government and ultra-nationalists Ataka to intimidate BNT into changing its coverage. The parties in power have accused BNT of coverage that “stokes tensions”.
