Deadline for removal of election posters

May 15 is the deadline for parties to take down election posters and billboards, and parties that fail to do so face fines from 1000 to 5000 leva (about 500 to 2500 euro), public broadcaster Bulgarian National Television said.

Recent practice has been that if parties do not remove their posters, the task is awarded to paper trading firms and the posters are pulped and recycled. Another option is to give the task to people serving sentences of community service. Sofia pays contracted cleaning firms to remove the posters.

According to statistics from previous elections, more than 40 tons of paper is used for election posters.
