Bulgarian police arrest Bourgas prosecutor, allegedly for accepting bribe

Police in Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Bourgas arrested deputy district prosecutor Angel Georgiev, allegedly for accepting a bribe, Bulgarian media said on February 15 2013.

Georgiev is the prosecutor in cases involving murder and bank fraud. Currently, he is supervising prosecutor in the trial for the kidnapping and murder of Bourgas businessman Stoyan Stoyanov.

Georgiev, who was in the company of a Bourgas lawyer, was arrested by plainclothes police at a coffee shop in the city. Bulgarian media said that the lawyer also was arrested.

The two reportedly are being held in 24-hour detention, pending formal charges.
