Sofia courthouses shut down after anonymous bomb tip-off

All courthouses in Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia were evacuated on the morning of November 9 after an anonymous call to the 112 emergency hotline, shortly before 9am, claimed that “there is a bomb in the courthouse”.

Because the caller did not specify which courthouse, all of them had to be evacuated, Bulgarian-language media said, quoting police sources.

Work at the largest courthouse in Sofia, the Justice Palace, had resumed about an hour later, the reports said. The building is used by the Sofia City Court, Sofia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Cassation.

Another building, used by the Sofia District Court, however was sealed off for 24 hours and the magistrates given the day off, daily 24 Chassa said.
