Robert de Niro arrives in Bulgaria for Killing Season movie shoot
Double-Oscar winner Robert de Niro arrived in the Bulgarian capital city Sofia for a brief stay to film scenes for forthcoming film Killing Season, Bulgarian-language media reported on October 10 2012.
De Niro was escorted to a waiting car by a phalanx of security, answering no questions from waiting journalists nor agreeing to give autographs – in contrast to his co-star John Travolta, who on arriving at Sofia Airport two days earlier, gave autographs and briefly answered a few questions over the shoulders of his security detail, which a local TV station then presented as an “interview”.
Local media reported, with a faintly plaintive note, that several fans of De Niro had waited at the airport for him for 15 hours. A young local actor enthused to reporters that such were De Niro’s skills as an actor that for various roles, the star had gained weight, lost weight and even “learnt to speak with an Italian accent”.
In the Killing Season, De Niro plays Benjamin Ford, an American who fought in the war in Bosnia, who in the remote Smoky mountains clashes with Emil Kovac (Travolta), a Serbian veteran of the conflict.
According to the Killing Season’s IMDB entry, the movie is directed by Mark Steven Johnson and is scheduled for cinematic release in 2013.
