‘Code orange’ heat wave warning in Bulgaria expanded for July 30
The heat wave gripping Bulgaria will intensify on July 30, with a code “orange” weather warning issued for all but one district in the country, Bulgaria’s meteorology institute has said.
Such a warning is already in effect for 21 districts on July 29 – the areas affected are Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Turgovishte, Razgrad, Silistra, Shoumen, Sliven, Yambol, Haskovo, Kurdjali, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil.
Code “orange” warnings are issued when weather conditions pose risk to health and property, with temperature highs in those districts expected to reach between 37C and 40C during the day.
On July 30, the same warning will be in effect for the entire country, the sole exception being the district of Smolyan in southern Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has been gripped by a heat wave since July 25, with temperatures rising across the Balkan peninsula. Code “orange” hazardous weather warnings have also been issued for Montenegro, southern Serbia, parts of southern Romania and parts of Macedonia on July 29.
The heat wave will end before the weekend, starting on July 30, with thunderstorms expected to sweep through Bulgaria, weather forecasters said. However, another heat wave is forecast for next week, between August 3 and August 9, when temperatures are expected to rise up to 37C.
