NSI poll: Business sentiment in Bulgaria in August 2026 largely unchanged

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI), the results of which were reported on August 28, has found that business sentiment in Bulgaria in August 2026 was largely unchanged compared with July.

As The Sofia Globe reported previously, business sentiment in Bulgaria in July 2026 improved slightly compared with June, when it had declined compared with May.

The NSI said that in August 2026, business sentiment in the industry, construction and retail trade sectors dropped, with an improvement only in the service sector.

The indicator in the industry sector was down by 0.9 percentage points, with managers more unfavourable about the business situation.

In the construction sector, the indicator dropped by 1.6 percentage points, with managers reserved about the business situation over the next six months, while their forecasts about construction activity over the next three months were unfavourable.

The retail trade indicator was down by 1.1 percentage points, with managers shifting in their views of the business situation from “better” towards “staying the same”. Their expectations about both the volume of sales and orders placed with suppliers over the next three months were also more moderate.

However, in the service sector, the indicator was up by three percentage points. Managers were positive in their assessments of the business situation. They saw improved demand for services and their expectations about the next three months were favourable, the NSI said.
