Flu epidemic in Bulgaria’s Plovdiv: Pupils to go over to online learning
An influenza epidemic has been declared in Plovdiv, with school pupils going over to online learning from January 28 to February 6.
The measure is being imposed because of the drastic jump in flu cases in Plovdiv.
From 150 per 10 000 population last week, the number of cases has risen 225 per 10 000 population. The threshold for declaring an epidemic is 210 patients with acute respiratory illness per 10 000 people.
Other measures include the suspension of visits to medical institutions, as well as all preventive examinations and immunisations performed by general practitioners.
The order states that mixing groups and conducting joint activities with other groups in childcare facilities is not allowed.
In-person classes are suspended, as well as all group and extracurricular activities and activities based on interests, study groups, excursions, sports holidays and others organised by schools for all age groups, preparatory groups in schools, and personal development centres for special educational support.
An exception to the bans are student Olympiads and competitions in professions in schools scheduled for the period of the epidemic, which will be held in person. The exception cover the regional round of the Physics Olympiad on January 31 and the regional round of the Chemistry and Environmental Protection Olympiad.
