Bulgaria’s July 2026 was one of the country’s coldest Julys in the past 20 years – meteorological bureau
July 2026 in Bulgaria was the country’s coolest and wettest July since July 2019 and one of its coldest Julys in the past 20 years, the national meteorological bureau said in a regular report.
In July, temperatures and precipitation averaged for the country were close to the climate norm.
Average monthly temperatures measured at weather stations in populated places were between 18 and 26 degrees Celsius, deviating from the monthly norm between minus 1.4 and plus 1.4 degrees.
The highest measured temperature was 39.3 degrees on July 20 in the village of Purvomay, Blagoevgrad region.
The lowest minimum temperature in a station in a settlement was 4.9 degrees in Dragoman on July 26, and the lowest temperature measured on a mountain peak is minus 2.6 degrees on Musala peak on July 23.
In Sofia, the highest measured temperature was 33.4 degrees on July 18, and the lowest, 8.9 degrees on July 24.
The highest 24-hour precipitation amount was 107.1 mm in the village of Goren Chiflik on July 22, when this area also received some of the heaviest precipitation for the month.
Heavy precipitation was also recorded on July 1 in the municipality of Trun. The amount of precipitation measured in the village of Dolna Melna was 98.4 mm.
On July 24, snow fell on the highest peaks of the Rila and Pirin mountains and a thin snow cover formed.
At the beginning of the month, hail and partial damage to agricultural crops were registered in places in the northeastern and southwestern parts of the country (Rousse, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad), the meteorological bureau said.
