EC pays out 1.24 billion euro to Ukraine for drones, missiles

The European Commission (EC) paid out 1.24 billion euro on October 7 under the defence component part of the 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan, the EC said.

The funding covers drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition and missiles manufactured by Ukrainian entities.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said: “Russia is continuing its deliberate strategy of terror – trying to make daily life unbearable for Ukrainians. Today’s disbursement will help strengthen Ukraine’s defence industry. And Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. To protect people and infrastructure.”

The Ukraine Support Loan provides support with an indicative split of 60 billion euro for defence and 30 billion euro for budgetary assistance over 2026–2027. In 2026 alone, 28.3 billion euro are planned for disbursement to support Ukraine’s defence industrial capacity. Further disbursements under the 2026 defence component of the instrument will continue in the coming weeks, the EC said.

Supporting Ukraine’s defence remains a key priority for the EU, the statement said.

“By providing access to drones, interceptors, ammunition, air defence and missiles, the EU is helping Ukraine meet urgent needs on the battlefield and strengthen its defence against Russia’s war of aggression.”

All funding decisions respond to Ukraine’s evolving needs and are subject to agreed conditions and monitoring.

Since 2022, the EU and its member states have provided 228.7 billion euro in overall support to Ukraine, including 3.8 billion euro from the proceeds of immobilised Russian assets.

For the rest of 2026, Ukraine still has 32.5 billion euro available in financial support: 28.1 billion euro remain available for disbursement under the Ukraine Support Loan, consisting of 15.4 billion euro to support Ukraine’s defence industrial capacity and 12.7 billion euro in budget support.

In addition, 4.4 billion euro in budget support is still available under the initial Ukraine Facility for this year. The EC said that this means that more than 17 billion euro in budget support is available for 2026, subject to the fulfilment of the relevant conditions outlined in the Ukraine Plan and the Memorandum of Understanding.
