Reports show Bulgaria’s weapons exports to Ukraine, other countries, in 2022 – 2025
Reports filed with the United Nations Register of Conventional Weapons show Bulgaria’s exports to Ukraine and other countries from 2022 to 2025.
The report for 2025 shows Ukraine as the final importer state from Bulgaria of 3000 72.5mm portable anti-tank guns, 100 7.62mm light machine guns, 100 40mm grenade launchers and 50 14.5mm anti-aircraft guns.
That year’s report, and those for recent preceding years, show a number of notable weapons exports from Bulgaria to other countries that have been supporting Ukraine, though they are shown as the final importer state.
These items include 22 T-72 tanks, 43 armoured personnel carriers and 38 122mm cannon to Czechia, 23 500 72.5mm one-shot disposable anti-tank rocket launchers to Romania and 2500 of the latter to Poland.
The report for 2024 shows 1000 72.5mm anti-tank rocket launchers and 50 82mm mortars to Ukraine.
In the 2023 report, Ukraine does not figure as a final importer state, but that year, 26 000 anti-tank rocket launchers, 2360 light machine guns and 6950 40mm grenade launchers went to Poland, and 10 839 anti-tank rockets launchers, 1347 heavy machine guns and 1100 40mm grenade launchers went to Romania.
The report for 2022 – the year in which Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine – does not show Ukraine as a final importer state from Bulgaria.
However, that year’s report shows the export of 12 T-72 tanks and 5000 portable anti-tank guns to Czechia, 14 845 grenade launchers and 9930 anti-tank guns to Poland, and 5580 portable anti-tank guns and 2920 grenade launchers to Romania.
The reports list exports of weaponry but not items such as artillery shells and small arms ammunition.
