Bulgarian railways offers retro railcar rides on June 6 and 7

Bulgarian state railways BDZ is offering retro railcar train rides from Sofia to Bankya and back on June 6 and 7.

The initiative is in connection with International Children’s Day on June 1, which this year is on a working day, and BDZ”s idea is to give a chance to parents to enjoy a railway excursion with their children at the weekend.

Retro railcar train No. 19 001.7, manufactured in 1960 for state leaders of the time, will make two trips on Saturday and Sunday.

The morning journey will start at 9.50am from Sofia Central Railway Station, to arrive in Bankya at 10.15am. The return trip begins at 11.40am, to arrive in Sofia at 12.05pm.

The afternoon journey begins at 1pm from Sofia, to arrive in Bankya at 1.25pm. The return trip begins at 3.45pm from Bankya, to arrive in Sofia at 4.10pm.

The train has a separate area with coffee machines and a refrigerator, where food and drinks will be on offer.

Tickets for the return trips, with a reserved seat included, are 30 euro for adults and 20 euro for children up to 10 years old. They can be purchased from ticket offices and railway offices at all stations in the country. Quantities are limited, BDZ said.
