Bulgaria issues weather warnings for April 2 over forecast heavy rain

Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for April 2 for a number of districts because of forecast heavy rain.

The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Kurdzhali, Haskovo and Smolyan.

A number of other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather for April 2, also because of forecast heavy rain.

The districts subject to the Code Yellow warning are Sofia city, Sofia district, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik, Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Lovech, Gabrovo, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Veliko Turnovo.

The remaining districts are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.

The meteorological bureau said on April 1 that over the next 24 hours, it will be cloudy over the country.

In many places, there will be significant amounts of rain, mainly in Southern Bulgaria and the mountains.

The wind will be moderate, temporarily strong from the east-northeast, after noon in the central southern regions from the south.

Minimum temperatures will be between 4° and 9° Celsius, in Sofia – around 4°, the maximum – between 7° and 12°, in Sofia – around 7°.

In the mountains it will be cloudy with rain, in the Rila-Rhodope region and the Balkan Mountains significant in quantity.

In places above 1400-1800 metres above sea level, the rain will turn into snow. A strong wind will blow from the south-southeast. Maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 2°, at 2000 metres – about minus 2°.

Over the Black Sea coast it will be cloudy with rain, on the southern coast with more significant amounts. There will be a moderate, temporarily strong wind from the northeast. Maximum temperatures will be 9°-10°.
