Bulgarian railways offering trips on April 4 on train pulled by oldest restored steam engine

Bulgarian state railways BDZ is offering two special trips from Sofia to Bankya on April 4, on rolling stock pulled by its oldest restored steam engine, No. 26.26, which dates from the first decade of the 20th century.

The occasion for the train is Lazarus Day, an important date in celebrations of the Orthodox Christian Easter, which is 2026 is from April 10 to 13.

The first trip on April 4 will start at 9am from Sofia Central Railway Station, arriving in Bankya at 9.42am. The return trip starts at 11.10am, to arrive in Sofia at 11.51am.

The second trip starts from Sofia at 1.50pm, arriving in Bankya at 2.32pm. The return trip departs from Bankya at 4.10pm, arriving in Sofia at 4.51pm.

The price of a return ticket for adults is 20 euro and includes a reserved seat. For children up to 10 years of age, the ticket price is 10 euro. Tickets for the train can be purchased from ticket offices and railway offices at all stations in the country, as well as online at https://bileti.bdz.bg/.
