Bulgaria issues weather warnings for January 10 over forecast icy conditions
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for January 10 for most of the country’s districts because of forecast icy conditions.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Sofia city, Sofia district, Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pernik, Kyustendil, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Turgovishte, Rousse, Razgrad, Shoumen, Silistra, Bourgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Kurdzhali and Smolyan.
The remaining districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of icy conditions.
The meteorological bureau said on January 9 that it will be cloudy with precipitation over the next 24 hours.
Overnight, rain and snow will fall in many places in western Bulgaria, and icy is possible
By the end of the day, rainfall will cover the entire country, in significant quantities in the far southern parts of the country.
A moderate wind will blow from the south-southwest, which will gradually orient itself from the north-northwest, in eastern Bulgaria from the north-northeast. Cold air will come in with it.
Late afternoon in north-eastern Bulgaria, the rain will turn into snow, and ice floes will form there and in the Sub-Balkans.
Minimum temperatures will be between minus 3° and 2° Celsius, in Sofia, about minus 3°. Maximum temperatures will be between 3° and 8°, in Sofia, about 3°.
In the mountains it will be cloudy with snowfall, significant in the massifs of south-western Bulgaria. A strong and stormy wind will blow from the west-southwest, after lunch it will orient from the west-northwest. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 1°, at 2000 metres, about minus 3°.
It will be cloudy with rain showers along the Black Sea coast. A moderate, temporarily strong southwest wind will blow, which will weaken by the evening and will be oriented from the north-northeast. Maximum temperatures will be 8°-12°.
