Bulgaria’s public holidays and long weekends in 2026

There are six long weekends in Bulgaria in 2026, counting the current one, created by the special public holiday on January 2 declared by the government because of the transition to the euro.

The first official working day of 2026 is January 5.

In 2026, the Orthodox Christian Easter is from April 10 to 13.

This year, May 1, Labour Day, is on a Friday, meaning a three-day long weekend.

May 24, the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavonic Literature, is on a Sunday, making Monday May 25 a special public holiday.

September 6, Unification Day, is on a Sunday, making Monday September 7 a special public holiday.

The Christmas long weekend is from Thursday December 24 to Monday December 28 inclusive. December 28 is a special public holiday because this year, December 26 is on a Saturday.
