Bulgaria’s transition to euro to affect e-vignette services
From December 22 to December 31 2025, the possibility to purchase e-vignettes via bank transfer through the website of the National Toll Administration, as well as through the mobile application, will be temporarily suspended.
This is necessary in connection with the preparation of payment systems for the transition to the euro. Users who most frequently use this payment channel have been notified by email, the National Toll Administration said.
During this period, e-vignettes may be purchased using all other available methods: by bank card via the website www.bgtoll.bg and the mobile application, at service counters with cash payment, or via self-service terminals using a bank card, the statement said.
The service counters are located at the main border crossing points, as well as in the 27 Regional Road Administrations. The total number of self-service terminals is 464. E-vignettes may also be purchased through the partner network of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
Route cards (Route Passes) purchased in 2025 may have a travel date no later than December 31 2025 inclusive.
Selecting a travel date after January 1 2026 will not be possible, despite the fact that the product allows purchase up to seven days in advance. For example, when purchasing a route card on December 28 2025, it will be possible to select a travel date up to December 31 2025, but not January 1 2026 or later.
From 9pm on December 31 2025 until 2am on January 1 2026, all sales channels of the National Toll Administration, as well as those of the National Service Providers, will be temporarily unavailable. The interruption is necessary for maintenance activities carried out by the National Payment Operator BORICA AD, followed by checks to ensure normal system operation. During this period, no payments, including cash payments, will be possible, the administration said.
The National Toll Administration is recommending that motorists who plan to travel during the specified periods purchase the required e-vignette or route card in advance, bearing in mind that route cards may be used no later than December 31 2025 inclusive.
In connection with the upcoming introduction of the euro as the official currency of the Republic of Bulgaria as of January 1, the National Toll Administration informs users that in January 2026 cash payments will be accepted both in euro and in Bulgarian leva, with change given in euro. The period of dual price display will continue until August 8 2026.
