Prices of Bulgaria’s electronic road tax stickers to rise from May 1

Prices of electronic road tax stickers – known in Bulgarian as vinetki – are to increase from May 1, Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency said on March 31.

For light vehicles – those up to 3.5 tons – the annual electronic road tax sticker will cost 97 leva a year, an increase of 10 leva.

Quarterly ones will cost 54 leva (an increase of six leva), monthly ones 30 leva (an increase of three leva), weekly ones 15 leva (an increase of two leva) and weekend ones 10 leva (an increase of one lev).

The timing of the increase takes place after the four-day Easter weekend, from April 18 to 21.

The Road Infrastructure Agency said that motorists who had yet purchased an electronic road tax sticker and planned to travel for the Easter long weekend had the chance to buy one at a lower price, before the increases take effect.

Motorists may check how long their electronic road tax stickers have until their expiry date at the www.bgtoll.bg website.

After entering the registration number of the vehicle and the country in which it is registered, the expiration date of the electronic vignette can be established, regardless of where it was purchased – from the Road Infrastructure Agency or in the sales network of the agency’s partners.

The online sales system allows the electronic road tax sticker to be paid for up to 30 calendar days before the date of its activation.

When purchasing an electronic road tax sticker, users must carefully review and verify the information entered by them or by their employee before confirming the final payment for the electronic road tax sticker.

The responsibility for filling in correct information about the vehicle number, its category and the validity period of the vignette lies with its owner or user. In case of incorrectly declared data, the fee due is considered as not having been paid, the agency said.

The characters of the number plate may be entered in either Cyrillic or Latin script, but must correspond to the characters in the vehicle’s number plate itself.

When writing the number, only letters and numbers are entered. The characters 0 (zero) and О (letter О) are not interchangeable. For a digit in the number, 0 (zero) must be entered, and for a letter “О”. If the number plate contains a dash, dot or space, these are not input.
