February 2025 was Bulgaria’s coldest second month of the year since 2013

February 2025 was Bulgaria’s coldest February since 2013, the national meteorological bureau said in its regular monthly report.

Average monthly temperatures were between minus 3 and 4 degrees, lower than the monthly climate norm by between minus 5 and minus one degree.

The highest measured temperature was 20.5 degrees on February 1 in the town of Sadovo, Plovdiv district.

The lowest minimum temperature in a station in a settlement is minus 22.5 degrees on February 22 in the town of Glavinitsa, Silistra district, and the lowest temperature measured on a mountain peak is minus 23.1 degrees on Musala peak on February 20.

In Sofia, the highest measured temperature was 13.3 degrees on February 1, and the lowest, minus 13.3 degrees on February 20.

In Western and Central Bulgaria, the amounts of monthly precipitation were below the climatic norm – by between 8 and 80%, and in Eastern Bulgaria they are around and above the norm, by between 50 and 183 per cent.

Although it was relatively dry in a large part of the country, February 2025 has more precipitation than February 2024 and 2023.

During most of February, the water levels of the rivers in the country were around and below the thresholds for medium waters and around the thresholds for low water levels.
