Salaries in Bulgaria in 2023 lowest in EU, but increased at rate higher than EU average
In 2023, the average annual full-time adjusted salary for employees in Bulgaria was the equivalent of 13 500 euro, the lowest in the European Union, EU statistics agency Eurostat said on November 7.
In 2023, the average annual full-time adjusted salary for employees in the EU was 37 900 euro, a 6.5 per cent increase from 35 600 euro in 2022.
Among EU countries, the highest average annual full-time adjusted salary was recorded in Luxembourg (81 100 euro), followed by Denmark (67 600 euro) and Ireland (58 700 euro).
In contrast, the lowest average annual full time adjusted salaries were recorded in Bulgaria (13 500 euro), Hungary (16 900 euro) and Greece (17 000 euro).
The figure recorded for Bulgaria in 2023 was 13.66 per cent higher than that for 2022, was 136 per cent higher than the 5704 euro in 2013 and was 577 per cent higher than the 2153 euro registered in 2003.
The figure recorded as the EU average in 2023 was 30.15 per cent higher than that in 2013 and 68.87 per cent higher than the figure in 2003.
