Bulgaria in 10M euro deal with Poland on overhaul of six more MiG-29 fighter jet engines

Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry has concluded a contract valued at just more than 10 million euro excluding VAT with Polish state company Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 2 S.A for the overhaul of six MiG-29 fighter aircraft engines, according to Bulgaria’s public procurement register.

The maximum period for carrying out the overhaul of each engine will not exceed nine months, counted from the date of handover of the engine.

The contract includes a penalty clause for the Polish firm of 0.1 per cent of each day overdue.

The Defence Ministry announced the tender for the overhaul of six engines for MiG-29 aircraft at the beginning of April 2024.

In mid-August 2023, the ministry signed a six-engine overhaul contract for the MiG-29 with the Polish state-owned company.

At the time, the ministry said that the purpose of awarding the public order was to ensure the airworthiness of the MiG-29 aircraft until achieving operational capabilities to carry combat duty with the new F-16 Block 70 fighter jets, the first of which is to arrive in 2025.
