Forecast strong winds prompt weather warnings for several districts in Bulgaria for October 1
Bulgaria’s national weather bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for the districts of Varna and Dobrich for October 1 because of forecast strong winds.
Several districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of forecast strong winds.
The districts subject to the Code Yellow warning are Vidin, Montana, Pleven, Veliko Turnovo, Lovech, Vratsa, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora, Turgovishte, Shoumen, Sliven, Razgrad and Rousse.
On September 29, strong winds and storms caused damage in districts that had been subject to warnings of hazardous weather.
In Bourgas, roofs were damaged and trees brought down, in Varna emergency services responded to reports of blocked sewer maintenance holes, fallen trees and branches, while in Plovdiv, strong winds toppled billboards, scaffolding and trees.
In parts of the country, strong winds resulted in power cuts in about 30 small settlements.
Snow has fallen on some of Bulgaria’s highest mountain peaks – Mussala in Rila, Botev in the Stara Planina range and Cherni Vruh on Vitosha mountain.
The national weather bureau said the weather on October 1 would be mainly sunny, with a strong north-westerly wind, though in north-eastern regions and along the Black Sea coast, there would be rain in places.
Maximum temperatures would be between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius, in Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia about 16 degrees Celsius.
