Fifth Sofia Documental film festival opens on September 28

The fifth Sofia Documental international documentary film festival, with a focus on human rights, will be held from September 28 to October 6 2024 with the theme “Get Out of the Bubble”.

According to the organisers, the festival will present 30 premiere films for Bulgaria, winners of prestigious international awards.

There will be exclusive meetings with the directors and a number of special events, and part of the programme will be available online nationwide until the end of October in partnership with Neterra TV.

Sofia DocuMental is described as the first international festival in Bulgaria for creative non-fiction film with a focus on human rights.

Organised by the Balkan Documentary Center, the event is a platform for human rights debates, open to a wide range of Bulgarian and international audiences.

“In a world where indifference and division rule, Sofia DocuMental invites us to step beyond our comfort zone and expand our perception of reality, as implied by the visual identity of the festival, which will come to life in key places all over Sofia, such as the Sofia Largo, Cinema House, Odeon Cinema, Czech Center Sofia, Goethe Institute, Polish Institute, French Institute, Club DOM, as well as the newly opened cultural scene of the Central Hall,” according to the festival’s website.
