Bulgarian railways offers steam train trip on September 6, Unification Day

Bulgarian state railways BDZ has organised a steam train excursion for the country’s September 6 Unification Day.

Unification Day commemorates the unification of Eastern Rumelia and the Principality of Bulgaria in 1885. In 2024, September 6 is on a Friday, creating a three-day weekend, the first of two in September this year.

The train, with four carriages, will depart from Gorna Oryahovitsa at 9.30am.

En route to Tryavna, it will stop at Trapezitsa at 9.43am and Veliko Turnovo at 9.48am.

The scheduled time of arrival in Tryavna is 10.47am, and the train departs for Gorna Oryahovitsa at 3.50pm. With stops at Veliko Turnovo at 4.36pm and Trapezitsa at 4.41pm, it is scheduled to arrive in Gorna Oryahovitsa at 4.57pm.

A return ticket costs 30 leva and this includes a reserved seat. A ticket for children costs 15 leva, but the child must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets fmay be purchased at ticket offices and railway offices in all stations in the country, as well as online at  https://bileti.bdz.bg/.
