Climatologist: Bulgaria faces warmest summer on record

Climatologist Georgi Rachev said in a television interview that this will be Bulgaria’s warmest summer since there have been meteorological observations.

Temperatures will again reach and exceed 40°C in the first 15 days of August, Rachev told bTV in an interview.

He said that on August 4 and 5, there would be some cooling, with a slight drop in temperatures, with rain showers and thunderstorms in places, but overall, the hazard of fires would remain, with temperatures above normal.

The probability of it being the warmest year in Bulgaria is almost 80 per cent, he said.

Rachev said that the drought will continue in August as it is traditionally the month with the least rainfall.

The temperature of Bulgaria’s Black Sea water is 28°-29°.

Varna, on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, will have an average daily temperature of 27°.

“I don’t remember it ever being like this in July, it’s very warm,” he said.
