Emir of Qatar on first state visit to Bulgaria
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived on his first state visit to Bulgaria on March 8, holding talks with his host President Roumen Radev on opportunities for developing bilateral relations.
They discussed how to deepen the contacts between investment, business and academia, as well as future partnerships in the fields of economy, energy, agriculture, transport, trade and tourism.
A business forum with more than 60 representatives of Qatar companies is taking place during the visit.
The Emir is also due to hold talks with Prime Minister Boiko Borissov.
It is planned to sign a number of bilateral co-operation documents in the fields of entrepreneurship, education and science, energy, youth and sport.
The Bulgarian Cabinet, at a regular meeting on March 7, approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the energy ministries of the two countries, which envisages Bulgaria and Qatar co-operating in building a new liquefied or compressed natural gas supply from Qatar for Bulgaria and the region of South Eastern Europe.
The two countries will support the participation of their national energy companies in joint projects in the field of exploration, extraction, transmission and distribution of hydrocarbons, a Bulgarian government statement about the memorandum of understanding said.
