Long queues of lorries at Danube bridge crossings between Bulgaria and Romania as ferries stopped by ice

Lorries formed queues of 14km at the Danube Bridge 2 at the Bulgarian city of Vidin and of 13km at Rousse on January 23, as all river ferries were shut down because of the river icing over.

Bulgarian Border Police opened an extra lane to try to ease the congestion.

At both of the border checkpoints at the bridges connecting Bulgaria and Romania, Border Police were working at full capacity, reports said.

Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry said that at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint, lorry traffic was also intense, with about seven km of vehicles waiting to leave the country.
