Bulgaria’s Sofia to host International Organisation of Vine and Wine congress in May-June 2017
Bulgaria’s capital Sofia will host the 40th congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) from May 29 to June 2 2017, which will bring representatives of the organisation’s 46 member states to the city.
The OIV is an intergovernmental organisation of a scientific and technical nature of recognised competence for its works concerning vines, wine, wine-based beverages, table grapes, raisins and other vine-based products.
Bulgaria’s hosting of the 40th congress and the 15th general assembly of the OIV was approved at a meeting of the country’s Cabinet on December 28 2016.
“The holding of this prestigious forum in Bulgaria will be a huge advertisement for Bulgarian wine, as well as Bulgaria as a winemaker,” a Bulgarian government statement said.
An event of this magnitude will be a great opportunity to exchange experiences and give a good account of Bulgaria as a destination for cultural and wine tourism, the statement said.
During the congress, experts from around the world will present their achievements, technical and scientific topics will be discussed and there will be a useful exchange of experience and innovation.
More than 1000 delegates are expected to attend the congress.
