Bulgaria busts group smuggling migrants through Serbia to Western Europe

In a joint operation led by prosecutors from the north-western Bulgarian city of Vidin, officers from the Interior Ministry and State Agency for National Security bust a smuggling ring trafficking migrants from Bulgaria through Serbia towards Western Europe, the Interior Ministry said on November 18.

Pre-trial proceedings for people-trafficking had been initiated against two Bulgarian citizens, the ministry said.

A Bulgarian citizen had been put in 24-hour custody in connection with alleged direct involvement in transporting a group of 82 people including citizens of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
