Poland faces deepening of constitutional crisis
Poland’s top court Constitutional Tribunal ruled Wednesday that a recently passed changes to law governing its operations was fully unconstitutional, setting up a heightened conflict with the government which has called the very hearing of the case a violation of the law.
The changes that were passed by Law and Justice (PiS)-dominated parliament at the end of last year and later signed into law by the Polish president Andrzej Duda have neutered the country’s highest court, according to critics.
