10 hour talks in Strasbourg between Macedonia’s VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM
Negotiations between the leaders of the two main Macedonian parties, VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM (Macedonian Social Democratic League) lasted for about 10 hours on May 19, but neither of the sides has given any details on the meeting held in Strasbourg.
Sources within the European Parliament declared that the talks have lasted until 3.30am on May 20, and the mediators in the talks were MEPs Ivo Vajgl, Eduard Kukan and Richard Howitt, as well as European Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn.
Vajgl said in a short statement for the media that the meeting was valuable and according to him, both sides will come out with a joint declaration on the content of the talks and what can be done to find a solution to the political crisis in Macedonia.
