Bulgaria’s Economy Ministry appoints new InvestBulgaria chief

Bulgaria’s Economy Ministry said that Stamen Yanev has been appointed director of the country’s investment promotion agency InvestBulgaria. He replaces Svetoslav Mladenov, one of the last remaining holdovers from the now-departed Plamen Oresharski administration.

Yanev is a lawyer with experience in the mergers and acquisitions sector and he has previously worked for large international consultancy and audit firms, the ministry said, without giving further details. He holds a master’s degree in law from the St Kliment Ohridski Sofia University and is a member of the Sofia bar association.

The ministry statement said that Madjide Ahmedova was appointed as deputy executive director of InvestBulgaria. Ahmedova is an economist with previous experience in the state administration, having worked in the tax administration field, and she has also previously served as deputy director of the Privatisation Agency.
