Pazardzhik mayor’s chief of staff shot dead

The chief of staff of the mayor of the Bulgarian town of Pazardzhik was shot dead on the night of January 12.

Tatyana Stoyanova is reported to have died instantly. Prosecutors said that she had been shot six times.

The motive for the killing of Stoyanova, who was 33 and had headed mayor Todor Popov’s office since 2007 is not known.

Police were seeking witnesses and recordings from cameras in the area. The murder took place in front of Stoyanova’s residence.

Local media quoted Popov as saying that Stoyanova had not received any threats.
