What’s On: Tall Ships Regatta returns to Varna
Four years after the Bulgarian port city of Varna played host to the Tall Ships Regatta, the annual historical sailing ships boat race, it will do so once again this year, between April 30 and May 3.
This year’s edition of the race, the Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta, will be held entirely in the Black Sea, sailing off from Varna to Novorossiysk in Russia, with the second leg of the race crossing back from Sochi to the port of Constanta in Romania.
But before the ships embark on their voyage, they will spend several days in Varna and will be open to the public. A crew parade and award ceremony will be held in the city centre, as well as several other events, including concerts, sports events and children attractions, the organisers said.
A Parade of Sails is scheduled for May 3, during which the participating sailing vessels will pass near Varna coast to show their grandeur and beauty. A total of 23 ships from 11 countries are expected to participate in this year’s race, including the Bulgarian tall ship Kaliakra.
