Building of metro railway line to Sofia Airport on track – mayor

Construction of the metro railway line to Sofia Airport is on schedule and the section from Tsarigradsko Chaussée to the airport is more than 60 per cent complete, Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova said on April 11 2014.

Fandukova, speaking after inspecting work on the line, said that a year from now, the metro to Sofia Airport would be ready and the line would be used by about 98 000 people daily.

The Sofia Metro was one of the most successful European Union projects in the capital city, according to Fandukova.

She said that public transport in Sofia was being improved, with new trams and trolley buses already delivered and new buses expected by the end of 2014.

People coming into Bulgaria’s capital city from Trakiya Motorway should remember that the buffer parking on Tsarigradsko Chaussée, adjoining the metro railway station, was a good option to avoid being caught in traffic jams, Fandukova said.
