Five Days of Bulgarian Cinema in Prague

Bulgaria is not known for its cinema, although in the past few years it has seen its films shown at some major international film festivals (Konstantin Bojanov’s Avé and Kamen Kalev’s The Island both showed at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival).

The Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague has sought to expose local viewers to some of the country’s projects in recent years, and since 2009 it has organized the Bulgarian Film Festival, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Embassy in the Czech Republic. Unlike some other film festivals that take place in the capital every year, all the films in the Bulgarian selection have both English and Czech subtitles.
