Who moved our cheese? Tons go missing from Bulgaria’s State Reserve

Nearly 35 tons of cheese are missing from the warehouse of Bulgaria’s State Reserve and War-Time Stocks State Agency in Haskovo.

This was established at the end of last week, during a surprise inspection, public broadcaster Bulgarian National Television on September 30 2013.

The case is being investigated by the regional prosecutor in Haskovo. The warehouse is managed by a Haskovo company that has had a contract with the State Reserve in 2008 and a further agreement was signed three years later.

Since the beginning of the year, however, the company has been facing bankruptcy, the report said. The manager of the establishment could not be reached for comment.

The regional prosecutor’s office also declined comment.

The regional directorate of the Interior Ministry said that a check had been ordered after a report from the office of the State Reserve in Plovdiv.
