Pamporovo Velo Park opens summer cycling season
As Bulgaria’s winter resort that claims the highest number of sunny days a year, Pamporovo has made an effort to become a year-round destination for fans of outdoor sports. In 2012, the resort opened Pamporovo Velo Park, which uses some of the ski runs as mountain bike routes.
Like the ski runs, the bike routes offer different degrees of difficulty – from “green” and “blue” (beginners) to “red” and “black” (advanced). Pamporovo Velo Park also features a specialised mountain bike route, 1800-metres long, designed to host international competitions and as a training route for mountain bike pros.
The Velo Park’s ambitious goal is to become, in the next few years, one of Bulgaria’s top summer destinations.
This year’s summer season begins on June 15, with the Studenets ski centre turned into a bike centre, with bike and safety equipment rentals available every day. The ski lifts are also operational, with the full-day pass priced at 22 leva (separately, a six-leva deposit must be paid for the card itself).
The Velo Park is open every day between 8.45am and 6.30pm. For more information, visit its website.
