1500 Austrian pensioners first tourist group at Sunny Beach for 2013

A group of 1500 Austrian pensioners were scheduled to arrive at Sunny Beach on April 24, becoming the first tour group at the Bulgarian Black Sea resort in the approach to the 2013 summer season.

The group was, in effect, an advance guard, with a total of 15 000 Austrian pensioners expected in 2013 and 2014. A week-long stay was booked for the group.

The Union of Pensioners in Austria had chosen Sunny Beach for the spring gatherings of its members over the next two years, local media said.

The average age of the Austrian visitors was 70 and each had paid 750 euro for their holiday, according to the company running the resort. In all, the Austrian pensioners’ visits would bring Sunny Beach more than four million euro, according to company estimates.

The tourists would be accommodated in five hotels, Sunny Beach Ltd executive director Zlatko Dimitrov said.

On June 1, a total of 220 police officers seconded for duty at the resort are due to arrive. They have undergone courses in English and Russian.
