Bulgarian deposits in Cyprus estimated at 100M euro
Deposits by Bulgarian nationals and companies in Cyprus were estimated at about 100 million euro, reports in Bulgarian media said on March 21, quoting European Central Bank data.
The figure did not include deposits by Bulgarian banks, if any, in Cypriot lenders because the ECB data did not offer a break-down, by country of origin, of funds held as deposits by foreign banks.
In total, deposits in the Cyprus banking system were 107.8 billion euro – 38.2 billion euro held as deposits by foreign banks and 69.6 billion euro by individuals and companies.
Cypriots and locally-registered companies accounted for the bulk of that figure, 56.6 billion euro. Among foreign depositors, Greeks held 4.7 billion euro in Cypriot banks, followed by Britons with two billion euro, the reports said.
