Code yellow hazardous weather warning for Bulgaria
A “code yellow” hazardous weather warning has been issued for 15 districts in western, northern and central Bulgaria, the meteorological institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said on June 5.
Intensive rain and thunderstorms have been forecast for the Montana, Vratsa, Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Pazardjik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Turgovishte, Razgrad and Silistra regions. Although the weather was not unusual, residents were warned to exercise caution.
This is the first hazardous weather warning issued in Bulgaria since the February cold snap and heavy snowfall, which later led to flooding in the Smolyan and Haskovo regions in southern Bulgaria.
Although the month of May has seen extensive rain and colder temperatures than usual for the time of the year, there had been no hazardous weather warnings issued.
