Opera on the Square returns to Bulgaria’s capital from July 9
Performances in the Opera on the Square series will be held in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia from July 9 to August 9 2026, with the city’s landmark Alexander Nevski cathedral as the backdrop.
The programme:
July 9, 10, 11, 15, 17, at 8pm: Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci. Operas by Pietro Mascagni and Ruggero Leoncavallo. Performed in Italian. Duration three hours, with one intermission.
July 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, at 8pm: Mamma Mia! Musical by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Director Plamen Kartaloff. Duration three hours, with one intermission.
August 1, at 9pm: The Hermit of Rila. By Father Kiril Popov. Performed in Bulgarian. Duration two hours.
August 9, at 8pm: Turandot. Opera by Giacomo Puccini, conductor Daniel Oren. Duration two hours and 40 minutes, with two intermissions.
Children younger than six will not be admitted to these performances.
