Bulgarian Navy team destroys Russian drone found near Shabla
A Bulgarian Navy team destroyed on November 6 a drone – identified as a Russian Gerber-2 – that had been found near Shabla on Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast, according to a statement by the Defence Ministry.
At 10am, a signal was sent by the operational duty officer of the Ministry of Interior about the presence of a drone in the area of the beach north of the lighthouse on Cape Shabla, the ministry said.
A specialist team from Varna Naval Base established that the aerial drone probably fell into the sea and was subsequently thrown ashore.
According to the Defence Ministry, there were no inscriptions on its hull and it was classified as a Russian Gerber – 2. This contradicts earlier media reports that the drone was marked as a Shahel, a type that is of Iranian manufacture and which is used by Russia.
The drone was destroyed on site, with strict observance of all safety measures. It was established that it did not carry an explosive, the Defence Ministry said.
The incident is the latest of more than 100 in which drones or parts of drones have been found in Bulgarian waters or on beaches since the beginning of 2026, against the backdrop of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
