Two aircraft land at Sofia Airport following latest bomb threats – report
Two civilian aircraft that were travelling from London and Brussels landed at Vassil Levski Sofia Airport on November 6 following e-mailed bomb threats, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) said, citing the Transport Ministry.
The aircraft were checked by Border Police teams and no explosive devices were found, BNT said.
The planes landed without any problems.
This is the latest of a succession of disruptions of flights in Europe because of e-mailed bomb threats. On November 5, three aircraft that were the subject of bomb threats landed at Bulgarian airports – two in Sofia and one in Plovdiv.
Director of Air Traffic Management Ivan Dyaksov told Nova Televizia on November 6 that the e-mails were sent by “unknown organisations” whose goal is to sow discord.
There have been at least 24 such cases across Europe in the past week,” Dyaksov said.
National security expert Colonel Assen Peychev told Nova TV: “There are two countries in the world that have an interest in destabilising Europe – Russia and Iran”.
“They aim to both drain resources and test how Nato countries react,” cybersecurity expert Lyubomir Tulev said.
