Two Bulgarian film directors to receive financial support from European Cinema Support Fund

Eurimages, the European Cinema Support Fund of the Council of Europe, announced on March 24 its latest decisions to financially support film co-productions, including two with Bulgarian directors.

Further to recommendations made by independent experts meeting online, the executive committee of the fund has decided to support the co-production of 32 feature films, including two documentaries and one animation, for a total amount of 9 835 000 euro, the statement said.

The film co-productions approved for financial support include Deconstruction, by Bulgaria’s Pavel G. Vesnakov, 207 000 euro (a Bulgarian – Italian co-production), and The Worker, by Bulgarian Eliza Petkov, 370 000 euro (a German – Belgian – Bulgarian co-production).

Also on the list is Tales of the Golden Age 3 – Cristian Mungiu, Ioana Maria Uricaru (Romania) – 450 000 euro (Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, Republic of Moldova).

Of the 32 co-production projects supported during the session, 17 are to be directed or co-directed by women. This represents 59.71 per cent of the total funding awarded.

Established in 1989, Eurimages currently numbers 39 of the 46 member states of the Strasbourg-based Organisation, plus Canada.

Eurimages promotes independent filmmaking by providing financial support to feature-length films, animation and documentary films. In doing so, it encourages co-operation between professionals established in different countries, the media statement said.
