Bulgaria’s central bank: Loans to households in January 2026 up 20.7% y/y
Loans to households and NPISHs (non-profit institutions serving households) in Bulgaria added up to 28.948 billion euro at the end of January 2026, an increase of 20.7 per cent compared with January 2025, central Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on February 26.
This follows 21.1 per cent annual growth in loans to households and NPISHs in December 2025, BNB said.
Sums are expressed in euro after Bulgaria adopted the euro as its currency as of January 1 2026.
At the end of January 2026, loans for house purchases added up to 17.037 billion euro, an increase of 27.9 per cent annually, following 28.2 per cent annual growth in December 2025.
Consumer loans amounted to 10.958 billion euro. Compared with January 2025, they rose by 12.8 per cent, after 13.3 per cent annual growth in December 2025.
Deposits of households and NPISHs added up to 55.460 billion euro at the end of January 2026. This was an increase of 21 per cent compared with January 2025 (19.8 per cent annual growth in December 2025), BNB said.
