Bulgaria’s central bank announces overtime hours to meet high demand for trading leva for euro

Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) announced on January 7 that its cash desks and those of territorial divisions of the Cash Service Company will work overtime on four Saturdays because of high demand from clients for exchanging banknotes and coins from leva into euro.

The four Saturdays are January 10, 17, 24 and 31.

The cash desks in BNB headquarters in Knyaz Alexander I Square in Sofia will, on those days, offer only exchange of banknotes and coins that have been withdrawn from circulation, with an unexpired exchange period from leva into euro for individuals only.

The opening hours of the cash desks will be from 8.30am to 3.45pm, with no breaks.

Cash desks at the BNB Cash Centre at 10 Mihail Tenev Street in Sofia will perform only the following operations:

Exchange of banknotes and coins that have been withdrawn from circulation, with an unexpired exchange period from leva into euro for individuals.

Exchange of coins that have been withdrawn from circulation, with an unexpired exchange period from leva to euro for legal entities.

The opening hours of the cash desks at the BNB Cash Centre in Sofia will be from 8.30am to 3.45pm, with no breaks.

Cash Service Company cash desks in territorial divisions will be open on those Saturdays:

16 Ivan Hadzhiyski Street, Ovcha Kupel, Sofia;

2 Yagodovsko Chaussee Boulevard, Plovdiv;

23 Tsaribrod Street, Varna;

8 Alexander Veliki Street, Bourgas; and

58B Kliment Ohridski Street, Pleven;

These cash desks will do only the exchange of banknotes and coins that have been withdrawn from circulation, with an unexpired exchange period from leva to euro.

The opening hours of these cash desks will be from 8.30am to 4pm, with a break from noon to 12.30pm.

“The Bulgarian National Bank once again reminds that all euro coins with a Bulgarian national side can be used anywhere in the euro zone countries, as well as in a number of countries and territories outside the eurozone where the euro is an official or widely accepted currency, such as: Vatican City, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Montenegro, Kosovo, as well as in overseas territories of EU member states, such as Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Canary Islands,” BNB said.
