Bulgaria issues weather warnings for November 19 over forecast heavy rain
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for several districts for November 19 because of forecast heavy rain.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Sliven and the district (not city) of Sofia.
A number of other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of heavy rain: the city of Sofia and the districts of Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Rousse, Turgovishte, Razgrad, Shoumen, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna, Bourgas, Kurdzhali, Smolyan and Pazardzhik.
The remaining districts – Vidin, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Yambol – are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in southwestern Bulgaria and in the mountainous areas of central Bulgaria, the Stara Planina range, where it is expected to turn to snow at altitudes above 2000m. Mountainous areas are also likely to see strong winds, the forecast said.
Minimum temperatures will be between 5°C and 10°C in most of the country, but higher in southern Bulgaria – in the 13°C to 15°C range. Maximum temperatures in most places will be between 12°C and 17°C (16°C to 21°C in the south).
In Sofia, the minimum temperature will be about 8°C and the maximum 12°C on November 19.
