Bulgaria utilities regulator raises gas prices by 32.5% for November 2026
Bulgaria’s utilities regulator said on November 2 that it approved a 32.5 per cent increase in the regulated gas price in the country for the month of November, setting the new price at 58.43 euro a MWh, excluding transportation costs, excise and value-added tax.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said that it denied the request by Bulgargaz to set the price for November at 59.08 euro a MWh, asking the state-owned gas company to “find buffers” to reduce its initial demand.
Bulgargaz agreed to use higher quantities from the country’s Chiren gas storage facility, in addition to gas received under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) delivered under previously agreed contracts, to reduce the price.
The price increase was the fifth in as many months and by far the largest. It puts November gas prices well above the price in the same month of 2025, when it was 65.82 leva, or 33.65 euro a MWh.
The regulator’s chief, Plamen Mladenovski, sought to dispel concerns that high gas prices could lead to spikes in electricity and central heating prices starting January 1, saying that EWRC had “regulatory mechanisms” that would prevent such increases.
