Several drones wash up along Bulgaria’s Black Sea
A drone about two metres long and 1.5 metres wide washed up on Cabacum beach near Bulgaria’s Black Sea city of Varna on the morning of August 26, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) said, one of several drone incidents reported on the day.
A Bulgarian Navy specialist team was sent to the site to examine the device. The area was cordoned off.
According to initial information, the drone does not pose a danger, BNT said.
This is the latest such case on the Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea Coast, with the military saying that in recent days the sea has thrown up about six drones or parts of drones, the report said.
It is assumed that the northeast wind is moving debris or entire drones towards the Bulgarian coast.
Navy sappers said that the strong northeast wind and the high waves were the reason for the frequent surfacing of drones along the northern Black Sea coast in recent days.
Separately, Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry said on August 25 that a specialist team from Bourgas Naval Base had been ordered that day to identify an unmanned aerial vehicle spotted in the waters of the Black Sea between Tsarevo and the village of Varvara.
On site, military personnel determined that it was an electric reconnaissance drone that posed no danger. The drone was transported to the naval base.
The Defence Ministry, in a statement later on August 26. said that another Navy team was tasked with reconnaissance of an object spotted in the waters of the Black Sea at a point with coordinates near the town of Pomorie.

The team determined that the discovered object was an unmanned aerial vehicle and destroyed it on site in the sea, strictly observing safety measures, the ministry said.

A specialist team from the Naval Base Varna was tasked on the evening of August 25 to reconnoiter and identify an unmanned aerial vehicle spotted in the waters of the Black Sea in the area of the Kamchia resort, the Defence Ministry said.
After reconnoitering the object, it was determined that it was a wing from a military drone, thrown from the sea, without ammunition. The wing from the drone does not pose a danger and has been transported to the Naval Base Varna, the ministry said.
